The governments for many years have been sending out a strong message to people that in the future the state can no longer afford to provide a state pension that will provide you with a decent standard of living.  Also they is a rapid decline in the numbers of final salary schemes available to staff.

The state pension age is increasing for example someone currently age 20 will not receive a state pension till age 68.  However this may change in the future to an older age.
